For the world’s largest offshore wind farm – Dogger Bank in the North Sea – WIEGEL galvanized and coated over 1,500 tons of steel for the monopile foundations on behalf of the manufacturer Smulders.
Since offshore structures are exposed to the highest corrosion category CX, WIEGEL combined hot-dip galvanizing with an additional coating using the proven duplex process. This combination ensures maximum durability and protection under extreme conditions.
Already during the planning phase, WIEGEL provided technical consulting and drawing reviews to define optimal openings for zinc flow. The project demonstrates how WIEGEL contributes to sustainable energy supply and operational safety of modern offshore facilities through experience, precision, and surface technology.
